My Croatian family is from Gospić - my wife took this photo as I drove the family from Pula to Split.

Summary

Our trip to Croatia this summer was a great success, both from relaxation and bureaucratic perspectives.

Our Croatian citizenship was granted in February and April of 2026, so we planned a trip out to gather documents. The trip happened to coincide with a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds concert in Pula – all the better!

We also had what I'd describe as the best interaction with a government office/bureaucracy: 10 minutes in Pula's MatiÄŤni uredi (Registry Office) and we had 2 copies of our Domovnicas (Certificate of Nationality) in hand. It couldn't have been easier.

So, with the primary point of the trip accomplished quickly in our first stop, it was time to enjoy the vacation.

The photos you're seeing below were taken by either my iPhone 17 Pro Max or my Fujifilm X100VI, which was an absolute joy to have on the trip. I am - clearly - an enthusiast amateur when it comes to photography, but the X100VI is forcing me to compose shots, which in turn improves my iPhone photography.
